Coombe Gardens

Azaleas at the edge of the woodland at Coombe Gardens

Coombe Wood has an ornamental garden in South Croydon which is beautifully planted, carefully designed to offer colour and interest throughout the seasons. This little haven was a life saver during our years at the Flat on Selsdon Road, I deeply missed having an outside space, this is where I came for solace and a little quiet time with nature.

A close up view of the artwork

This artwork is based on the Rhodedendron and Azalea blooms which fill the lower area of woods and surround the more formal part of the garden. I've spent many hours enjoying the beauty of the carefully tended space. I adore those gorgeous rich pinks and the way the sunshine catches the edges of the dainty petals. The little freckles in the throat of the flower remind me to appreciate my little freckles. I made this to capture the memory of that time, and to remind myself to always be grateful for my little garden.

I love it scaled up, and maybe I need a new armchair in the studio!?
